To achieve fuller lips that don’t look ‘overfilled’ or artificial, Dr Daood offers treatments that include the Restylane or Collagen Procedure and the Russian Lip Technique. These methods are injectable treatments that add lift and fullness, and subtle definition to the lips.

Restylane or Collagen Procedure

Dr Daood uses Restylane or Collagen to plump up and even out the lips, with no lumping. The process involves injecting small amounts of filler horizontally along the border of the lips. A very fine needle is used to shape the lips carefully and minimise trauma.

The lip enhancement treatment session usually takes around 30 minutes, and the results could last for up to six months. The general end result is softer, more youthful-looking lips that are visibly fuller, balanced, and more defined.

In addition to plumping up and adding definition to thin lips, Dr Daood can help enhance the appearance of vertical lines and correct drooping corners of the mouth during the same procedure.

Russian Lip Technique

Unlike other lip filler procedures, the Russian Lip Technique requires the filler to be injected into the lip vertically—to widen, lift, and plump up the lip body. This process requires a specialised injector using a smaller-than-usual syringe to deliver minuscule amounts of filler into precise central points on the lips.

The technique has fewer injection points, which keeps pain to a minimum, if at all. It takes slightly longer to perform compared to the standard linear thread technique because more precision is required. The effect could last from six months to 1 year.

If they have undergone previous lip enhancements, patients would need to have the old filler removed or dissolved before having the Russian Lip Technique done. Dr Daood has the training and facility to do that before the procedure.

1. Who is considered a good candidate for lip augmentation?

You need to be in good general health to pass as a good candidate for this treatment. It is not advised for patients who are suffering from oral herpes and blood clotting disorders. Individuals with diabetes, lupus, or connective tissue disorders should not be advised to get lip injections.

2. How should I prepare for a lip augmentation procedure?

It pays to be well prepared because this also allows you to recover more effectively and without any problems. If you smoke, you may be asked to stop smoking for at least 2 weeks prior to the treatment to prevent bleeding or healing problems.

Prepare comfortable pillows where you can prop your head to prevent swelling. Have some ice ready because this will help minimize bruising and swelling.

3. How long does a lip augmentation procedure last?

This will largely depend on the technique used, but generally lip injections can take 30-35 minutes to finish.

4. What are the risks and complications involved with lip augmentation?

Among the potential complications that could result from this treatment, the most common are allergic reactions. This is often due to anaesthesia and not because of the dermal fillers. Bleeding is also a possibility, but is highly likely to occur in patients who have bleeding or clotting problems. Infection and even nerve damage could also potentially result in this treatment, which is why you need to choose a practitioner who is skilled in performing the treatment.

5. Is lip augmentation a painful procedure?

The lips are among the most sensitive areas of the body, so to make the treatment more bearable, an anaesthetic nerve block is administered. This will make the procedure painless.

6. Will my lips look natural after treatment?

The primary intent for lip augmentation is to enhance the lips so that it complements well with the other facial features. Dr. Daood takes great care in enhancing the lips while maintaining the proper proportions.

7. Will my lips be significantly bruised or swollen?

This will be different for each patient, but it is normal to experience light bruising or swelling. This is why it is often recommended to give yourself at least a day or two off from work or any engagements to allow your lips to look better. Most patients choose to have their treatments done on a Friday so that it has enough time to settle over the weekend. That way, you will no longer feel conscious when going out in public.

8. When will I be able to see the results?

The results are already visible immediately after the treatment, in most cases. Your lips will be quite swollen during the first few days, but as soon as this subsides after the first week you will begin to notice the actual results.

9. How long do the results last?

Lip injections usually last up to 6-12 months depending on the product used.

10. Is this procedure covered by insurance?

This treatment can be covered by insurance only if this is being done for reconstructive purposes and depending on your coverage. However, you will be paying your own bill if it is done for cosmetic reasons. It is very important that you understand the charges included such as the doctor’s professional fee, anaesthesia, and follow-up care.

11. Are the effects of lip augmentation reversible?

Yes, lip augmentation with injectables actually provides you with temporary results. Eventually, the effects will disappear on their own. However, there are also permanent injectables which are more difficult to remove. Be sure to think it through before deciding on this type of lip enhancement.
